A work, a transformation, a re-entry into the melancholic self – OPVS NOIR is in no danger of becoming an offspring of understatement, neither in its title nor in its musical opulence. And quite rightly so: Not only will it be the first album as a six-piece band, but it will also be the prelude to an entire album trilogy, which will be released in several editions, including, of course, strictly limited collector's items.

11 songs per volume, so 33 songs in total, which not only conclude the wonderfully quirky chapter surrounding Blood & Glitter, but also begin the uncompromising journey back into the dark interior of the band. While LORD OF THE LOST found themselves in the spotlight of the great outdoors during the previous period, OPVS NOIR Vol. 1, released on August 8, 2025, via Napalm Records, represents a confident dive into previously untouched emotional depths. A look at the immediate past of LORD OF THE LOST's career makes it clear that this is not only a musically exciting step, but also a courageous one: supporting IRON MAIDEN on two European tours, followed by their first North American shows in over a decade, sold-out headline tours, participation in the final of the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2023, a #1 chart entry with their predecessor album, Blood & Glitter, celebrated performances at the biggest festivals around the world—they even got to meet King Charles himself. Hand on heart: How easy would it have been to ride the horse that had been so successfully bridled a little further?

But that's not how LORD OF THE LOST ticks – the only constant remains change. But what is the essence of LORD OF THE LOST in 2025? This is one of the questions that OPVS NOIR Vol. 1 fearlessly sets out to answer. Once again, the band demonstrates not only musical excellence, but also top-notch craftsmanship: Produced by Chris Harms, recorded, mixed, and mastered at the legendary CHAMELEON STUDIOS in Hamburg, the 11 tracks crash into the room with a force and brilliance that, compositionally, transports us directly to a darkly colorful ballroom. From there, the tone is set: amphitheater-sized dark wave metal.

OPVS NOIR Vol. 1 features the LOTL sextet as well as a variety of top-class guests: The passionate essence of the album is distilled in a poignant collaboration with WITHIN TEMPTATION on "Light Can Only Shine In The Darkness." Sharon den Adel's crystal-clear voice represents the perfect yang to Chris Harms' dark timbre yin. The dark a cappella ensemble STIMMGEWALT lends the theatrical "Moonstruck" a ghostly atmosphere, while Whiplasher Bernadotte (DEATHSTARS) transforms "Damage" into an industrial inferno with his unique voice. Anna Maria Rose (TALES OF TIME) adds a fragile, ethereal touch to "The Sadness in Everything," and exceptional cellist Tina Guo, who can regularly be admired live with Hans Zimmer on the world's major stages, enhances the delicate intensity of "Ghosts" with her unique cello playing. "Lords of Fyre," the joint track with FEUERSCHWANZ, offers a magnificent foretaste of the two bands' major co-headlining tour in fall 2025.

Everything is new, yet every note feels familiar. Behind every chorus, a surprise awaits; in every line, a new door opens to further open ends of the LOTL universe. This band takes the expectations of their ever-growing fan base and pours them into songs that transcend genre boundaries—and transform moments into monuments that take us all along: No one lost behind!
