Description

Predatory Void returns with their third record, an EP titled ‘Atoned in Metamorphosis‘, a concentrated statement of intent that compresses the band’s restless energy into four precise movements. The music negotiates extremes: patient, reverb-saturated passages give way to sudden, metallic eruptions; subterranean basslines provide narrative weight beneath volatile guitar textures, vocals growl, wail and lament as drums alternate between measured architecture and volcanic release. The result is an austere, immersive sound that is both incandescent and violently sharp.

Conceptually the EP takes on the ugly shadow of the unconscious and cathartically wrestles the demon onto canvas. Calling on elements from sludge, doom and black metal, as well as the unrelenting energies of hardcore and contrasting slower, haunted atmospheres, Predatory Void’s signature sound is as volatile and piercing as ever. Concise, tight compositions that hook you in melody and then rage in filthy agony. The music can be confrontational, but it is never gratuitous—force is deployed to clarify rather than to overwhelm as emotional depth is at all times the compass.

’Atoned in Metamorphosis’ represents the process of confronting the uncomfortable truths within ourselves — the obsessions, the grievances, the shadow sides so many hide or ignore. As we evolve and change in life, we’re inevitably faced with these darker, sometimes evil and obsessive parts, both in ourselves and in others. In recognizing our flaws, we begin to find strength — not in perfection, but in self-awareness. For some, this can feel like a spiritual or emotional cleansing, a kind of healing that comes from seeing ourselves fully, and embracing what we once tried to deny.”

Predatory Void’s approach is textural and structural in equal measure. The guitar interplay of Bossu and Decloedt ranges from skeletal, melody-driven motifs to dense, dissonant blocks that shift the tonal center, always accessible even in the heavy crush of crescendos.

“There’s no rigid method, but there is a rhythm to how we work. Most of the musical foundations start with Lennart. He brings in the core ideas — riffs, moods, structures — and then we bring it into the room together to see how it resonates with the rest of us. It’s important that everyone feels connected to what we’re creating. We shape the songs collectively, letting each person’s instincts take part in the process. Vocals tend to come in last, which allows them to respond to the full emotional arc of the song. It’s not overly calculated — more about feeling our way through until it clicks.“

Verstrepen’s percussion functions as both timekeeper and provocateur, a precision that borders on the edge of hysteria, rapid phrasing and flourishes dictate the every switching breath and momentum. Lina R’s vocals are drenched in condemnation and confess a range of emotions in vehemence and defiance. Auman’s bass lines are catchy, thick and nasty; deliberately considered, often operating as a playful counterpoint.

“Bringing Kris Auman into the band added new dimensions we’re only beginning to explore. Her musical background is quite different from the rest of us, and that fresh perspective has already started shifting how we think and write. The interplay between her and Lina vocally is one of the things we’re especially excited to dive deeper into. The shorter, more focused tracks on this EP allowed us to be more deliberate in how tension builds and breaks. There’s a kind of discipline in that. Since vocals are written last, they’re often the element that brings the most dynamic range. Lina’s voice moves in ways that can either drive things forward or pull them apart, depending on what the song needs.“

The band treats silence as an instrument: the spaces between notes are as consequential as the notes themselves, and transitions are crafted to maximize emotional payoff.

“We try not to overcrowd things. There’s often more power in holding back than in constantly pushing forward. Letting moments breathe gives weight to what follows. A riff can hit harder if there’s a silence before it. A vocal can cut deeper if it’s not buried under everything else. Those choices happen naturally — we’re not sitting around dissecting it — but we do feel our way into that balance. Restraint becomes a kind of tension, and tension is what we’re drawn to.“

The members of Predatory Void are collaborators with distinct roles and complementary sensibilities. The compositions arrange ideas around pacing and contour, sketching frameworks that allow motifs to breathe and transform. The monster vehicle in which this craft is delivered is unmerciful in intensity and crackling with powerful emotion.

“Each track explores a different layer of transformation — from chaos to clarity, from fear and denial to acceptance, from obsession to release. The journey isn’t linear, and neither is the sound. But through embracing the dark, we aim to reflect a more whole and honest version of ourselves.”

The production aesthetic prioritises fidelity to performance: takes are preserved for their immediacy, dynamics remain uncompromised, and the mix privileges contrast so that quiet moments carry as much dramaturgical weight as full-band climaxes.

“This time we worked with Gilles Demolder on recording and production. He and Lennart know each other well from Oathbreaker, so there’s a shared language between them that made the process smooth and instinctive. Gilles has a sharp ear and a strong sense of atmosphere. He was careful not to overstep but still brought a clear vision to the table. His fingerprints are on this EP, for sure — in the way the sounds breathe, in how the tension sits in the mix. It’s raw, but considered.“

Released on Pelagic Records, ‘Atoned in Metamorphosis‘ consolidates Predatory Void’s forward motion and stakes a claim for a sound that prizes architectural heft and textural nuance in equal measure. Listeners should expect an immediate physical response in what is undeniably an ardent expression, and enjoy the reward of cumulative detail, for the EP dares you to listen closely: to feel transitions as processes, and to accept tension as a pathway to release. Predatory Void invites engagement, not escape, and demands to be met on its own terms, boldly.

“There’s a quiet power in admitting that the poisonous parts of us exist. Translating that realization into something emotional and expressive — like music — creates a compelling and raw contrast. That juxtaposition sits at the heart of this 4-track EP.”
