THE RIFF COMPELS THEM
The Photography of Tom Bejgrowicz
High on Fire, Eyehategod & Corrosion of Conformity
Ottobar / Baltimore, MD / April 27, 2014
The first in a series of limited edition books that captures a musical scene at a specific point in time. Backstage, live, throughout the venue, and amongst the fans, The Riff Compels Them documents three legendary bands throughout a day as they cross paths on the road for a show of a lifetime.
"We had just been complaining that we could never create a truly great line up of heavy bands on a bill," says Mike Dean of C.O.C.. Adding, "Such a kindred yet distinct trio of seasoned heaviness would be hard to summon in a dream, let alone on one crumbling stage in a Baltimore fire trap."
Eyehategod's Mike IX adds, "I believe wholeheartedly that time is an abstract concept and this night in question was just that; an abstract. Watching the interactions on and off stage was very surreal to me. This book is a document of that one-of-a-kind show; both an abstraction of time and space and a flat out killer goddamn time!"
"I have always loved photography that captured a musical movement or an infamous show or the fans themselves," photographer Tom Bejgrowicz offers. "Be it San Franicsco's Haight-Ashbury District in the 60s, Max's Kansas City and CBGB's in New York in the 70s, or London's punks in the late-70s/early-80s, I appreciate how these photographs act as a time capsule for a distinct movement of music. Collections of images that take us back to a point in time and, most importantly, inspire us to bust out albums like Take As Needed For Pain, Animosity, and Blessed Black Wings and play them as loud as humanly possible!"
Limited to 350 worldwide, each copy is hand-numbered and signed by the photographer. $1 from every sale will be donated to the Humane League of Lancaster County.
